Bringing The World To Your Farm

Hosting a trainee is a way of bring the ‘world to your farm’ and experiencing another culture without leaving home.

As a host family not only are you giving a young person the opportunity to work in a different country, but you are helping them to expand their horizons by living a different culture, learning the language, meeting new friends and sharing of  ideas.

New Zealand is divided up into 15 areas, each one represented by an area representative elected by members. Area Representatives ensure the smooth running of the area by interviewing new host families, interviewing outgoing trainees and arranging supervisors for incoming trainees. They are members of the National Council which meets yearly to discuss current issues, both local and worldwide.

Trainees are available for agricultural, horticultural, agri-mix, hort-mix or home management placements.

All potential host families are visited by members of the organisation who will take time to explain the aims and objectives of Agri-Venture along with the expectations and responsibilities of being a host family. The host families trainee requirements will be discussed to ensure the needs of both the trainee and host family are both meet. The interviewer is required to sight and approve the trainee accommodation.

It takes a special type of family to accept a trainee into their home and treat them as a family member, but the rewards of hosting lasts a lifetime with friendships made from around the world.

Hosting families are sought in the following rural industries:
    ► Dairy
    ► Cropping
